Facebook Lifts Ban for Political Ads
Today, Facebook shared some long awaited news for political advertisers near and far — the end of the temporary political ban that the social platform enforced following the 2020 General Election. The abrupt policy change back in November was intended to heavily mitigate any misinformation tied to the election; misinformation is still something Facebook plans to continue fighting across the platform in the future. As of tomorrow, political ads are able to resume as they did prior to the ban, with no new stipulations. This is taking place about a week after Google officially lifted its political advertising ban on 2/24.
From Politico:
“Facebook and Google — responsible for billions of dollars in digital political ad spending during the 2020 cycle — both instituted bans around the 2020 election. Their prohibitions scrambled online fundraising efforts in 2021, cutting off a key communication tool between campaigns and voters ahead of state elections in Virginia and New Jersey this year, as well as municipal races around the country.”
